Exclusive surfaces for furniture and walls
Whether as a kitchen cabinet, shower wall, room door or designer furniture – PLEXIGLAS® gives interior surfaces and furniture a very special look.
Materials are nearly as versatile as the designs they create. Selecting the right material is thus very important for the later look and feel of an object. For example, high-gloss surfaces appear particularly elegant while velvety materials seem warm and soft. PLEXIGLAS®, Röhm’s brand acrylic glass, comes in many different versions, surfaces and a wide range of colors while also being easy to process.
PLEXIGLAS® is used in a wide range of applications in interior and furniture design, for example as wall cladding or as part of furniture. “The PLEXIGLAS® range offers a broad spectrum of different materials,” says Denise Gündling, who is responsible for the furniture market segment at PLEXIGLAS®. This is necessary because all designers have their own specific requirements for the material.
High-gloss kitchen fronts
High-gloss surfaces in kitchens have become extremely popular in recent years. The surfaces should not only look good, but also be robust and easy to clean. “This is why our PLEXIGLAS® Optical HC is ideal for high-gloss furniture fronts,” explains Gündling. The transparent material with its abrasion-resistant and chemical-resistant coating combines an elegant look and feel with the highest degree of robustness.
Another high-gloss alternative for furniture fronts is PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss, which is often used instead of tiles. The opaque acrylic glass has a particularly strong depth effect, produced by permanently joining colorless PLEXIGLAS® layers with colored PLEXIGLAS®.
Bathroom renovation made easy
The features of PLEXIGLAS® Hi-Gloss and PLEXIGLAS® Optical HC are not only popular for kitchens and furniture fronts. The material is also used as wall cladding or shower walls in bathrooms. The acrylic glass panels can be attached directly on the tiling or installed in framework system. The advantage is that bathrooms can be renovated without having to remove damaged or old-fashioned tiles. What is more, PLEXIGLAS® also creates large, jointless surfaces. “The result not only looks good, but is also easy to clean,” Gündling explains. “The choice of material ultimately depends on the desired visual appearance – be it single-colored from our range or individually printed by our partners.”
High-gloss surfaces even on room doors
The fact that the material can be printed allows for virtually unlimited design options – not only for applications in bathrooms, but also when it comes to furniture, kitchens and even doors. One manufacturer, for example, bonds printed PLEXIGLAS® Optical HC and a wooden core together to produce doors that have a high-gloss look and robust structure.
PLEXIGLAS® makes designers’ dreams come true
Röhm’s brand acrylic glass has a lot more to offer besides a high-gloss surface finish. PLEXIGLAS® Satinice, for example, does not come with a high-gloss shine, but has a satin finish. This makes its surface appear warm and soft, while also boasting a high-quality and classy look. In addition, PLEXIGLAS® Satinice is transparent and creates an impressive interplay of colors and light – with or without illumination. “PLEXIGLAS® can be dyed in virtually any color and is very easy to process. What’s more, the material is lighter and more stable than glass and does not turn yellow over time,” says Gündling. “All of these features of PLEXIGLAS® make it possible for designers to make their dreams come true.”
