- Partitions made of PLEXIGLAS® are a proven part of hygiene concepts
- The new PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is ideally suited for applications with increased hygiene demands
- PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is effective against many bacteria and viruses, and is easy to clean
Whether in supermarkets, restaurants or doctors’ practices, transparent partitions are currently found everywhere. As a part of hygiene concepts, they provide protection against droplet infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and other pathogens. With the new PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial, Röhm GmbH is now launching a new version of its brand acrylic glass, which has proven itself as a hygiene protection measure. The transparent solid sheets feature a coating on both sides which combines its resistance to scratches and chemicals with an antimicrobial effect, making it ideally suited for use in areas with heavy public traffic – whether at the point of sale, in restaurants, in fitness studios or healthcare facilities. “The awareness of hygiene has changed for good. That is why we have further enhanced our product range with a special version of our original, which satisfies these increased demands,” says Falk Majert, Head of the Acrylic Products business unit at Röhm.
Easy to process
PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is an extruded sheet material with a special surface treatment on both sides. The coating contains a formulation that controls microbial growth.
Moreover, this high-performance material highlights the same, proven properties and benefits as other extruded PLEXIGLAS® products. For example, PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial features an outstanding level of transparency and brilliance, has a minimal thickness tolerance and is easy to process in many different ways. At the same time, however, the material is stronger and lighter than glass in comparable geometries.
PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is available in the format 3,050 x 2,050 mm with thicknesses of 3 mm, 5 mm and 8 mm. Colorings, other thicknesses and a one-sided coating can be produced upon request.
Increased protection thanks to antimicrobial effect
“PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is especially well suited for surfaces with high hygiene requirements and that require increased cleaning effort, such as sneeze guards, partitions or enclosures,” says Falk Majert, describing the range of applications. After all, like all PLEXIGLAS® varieties with smooth, non-porous surfaces, the material features high surface hardness and is easy to clean: Liquid cleaning agents and lukewarm water are all you need. Information on processing, cleaning and maintaining PLEXIGLAS® can be found at https://www.plexiglas.de/en/service/processing/cleaning-plexiglas.
PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is the latest addition to the PLEXIGLAS® range of hygienic partitions. Virtually all transparent and colorless PLEXIGLAS® solid sheets, multi-skin sheets and films can be used for this. Moreover, different varieties of hygiene protection are available depending on the purpose, requirements and degree of use.
