A whole new perspective on pond life
The “Pond Cinema” (“Teichkino”) at the “Waldzentrum Sindelfingen” is an educational and environmental project offering fascinating insights into pond life. Here, the diverse underwater world can be observed directly through a PLEXIGLAS® panel.
The most effective way to promote environmental awareness is to allow people to experience the fascinating diversity of the natural world. The “Pond Cinema” at the “Waldzentrum” in Sindelfingen has been designed with this in mind. The idea behind this innovative project is to allow the species-rich habitat of a pond to be seen from an underwater perspective.
In the Pond Cinema, amphibians, insects, fish and plants can be observed in their natural environment through an acrylic glass panel, without being disturbed. People of all ages, especially children, can learn how important ponds and other aquatic biotopes are for biodiversity. The observation station is not just a visitor attraction, but also a place where biodiversity is preserved through targeted conservation efforts.
“Cinema screen” made of distortion-free PLEXIGLAS®
The centrepiece of the Pond Cinema is the high-quality panoramic window, providing visitors with a clear view inside the pond. PLEXIGLAS® was chosen because it has several outstanding properties:
Transparency: The glass panel offers an almost distortion-free view of the pond and enables detailed observations of the flora and fauna.
Durability: The material can withstand many years of harsh weather conditions and constant contact with water.
Safety: The robust properties of PLEXIGLAS® guarantee safety, even with intensive use by large numbers of visitors.
A model project
In October 2024, the Pond Cinema was officially opened with the attendance of pupils from Königsknoll primary school. Thanks to the innovative use of PLEXIGLAS® and our close cooperation with the Sindelfingen Community Foundation and local schools, we are now able to teach the importance of aquatic habitats in the clearest way possible.
The Pond Cinema is an example of innovative environmental education and the promotion of nature conservation awareness in urban areas. We regularly supplement it with educational programmes. School classes, families and nature enthusiasts can book guided tours covering important topics such as aquatic ecology, biodiversity and environmental protection.
Further projects of this kind are going to be developed in other parts of Sindelfingen in the future, giving even more people access to nature.
