PLEXIGLAS®, the brand acrylic glass from Röhm, provides numerous options to create contemporary and high-quality hygiene protection in retail and restaurants, as well as all other locations with high public traffic.
PLEXIGLAS® hygiene protection can be deployed to prevent droplet infections – in addition to the general hygiene measures such as wearing a mask and airing out the room. We developed our new product variant PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial specifically for areas with increased hygiene demands.
Mobile PLEXIGLAS® protective screens have proven to be a quick and flexible solution. Beyond these applications, permanent constructions for hygiene protection have been installed in many public locations. These constructions will probably also play a role when it comes to interior design in the future, as will easy-to-clean surfaces that can be disinfected when required.
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in increased demand for coated materials that are hygienic and scratch-resistant, such as PLEXIGLAS® Optical HC. PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial furthermore prevents the spreading of viruses and bacteria on surfaces.
All transparent and colorless PLEXIGLAS® GS/XT solid sheets and PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets are suitable for use as counter attachments, partitions or sneeze guards. Different variants are available depending on the purpose, requirements and degree of use. The coated variants provide additional ease of use.

PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is the best solution to save time and effort and prevent damage caused by improper cleaning and disinfection, particularly in applications with high public traffic and increased hygiene demands. As the surface prevents microbial growth, additional disinfection is not necessary. At the same time, the coating provides excellent resistance to abrasion and chemicals – and is therefore very easy to clean.
An added benefit: The front and back can be used for hygiene protection applications thanks to the coating on both sides. PLEXIGLAS® XT Antimicrobial is also available with one-sided coating upon demand; it is also possible to coat sheets with different material thicknesses or coat sheets colored according to individual wishes on one side or both sides with the antimicrobial coating.
The antimicrobial effect has been confirmed by an independent testing institute and the respective certificates are available on request.
PLEXIGLAS® Optical HC (gloss) and PLEXIGLAS® Optical HCM (matte) feature a scratch-resistant coating, making them highly suitable for surfaces subject to intensive use and cleaning. This sheet material is especially resistant to scratches, abrasion, moisture, and cleaning agents.
Generally, sheets made from cast or extruded brand acrylic glass from the PLEXIGLAS® GS/XT product family are suited for all types of hygiene protection as they are easy to process and form. The sheet material is not only available as crystal clear and transparent, but also in a tremendous range of colors. Moreover, it can be colored in any desired color, for example in corporate colors for room design featuring opaque dividers in the corporate design.
PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets are particularly stable. Protective screens with larger dimensions can be free-standing or mounted on counters, using PLEXIGLAS® multi-skin sheets in a frame design. Thanks to their shape, these twin-wall sheets are highly stable when used vertically, yet remarkably lightweight.
