Built on Experience, Driven by Innovation: POLYVANTIS Highlights Microfluidics Film Portfolio at K 2025

  • New closed-loop program makes it easy for fabricators and retailers across Europe to return and recycle PLEXIGLAS® offcuts and waste.
  • Recycled PMMA is reintegrated into production with certified traceability—supporting customers’ sustainability goals and reducing landfill waste.
  • In partnership with Pekutherm, POLYVANTIS expands its circular economy efforts as part of a broader European alliance for PMMA recycling.

Weiterstadt, Germany - POLYVANTIS, a leading manufacturer of semi-finished PLEXIGLAS® acrylic products, is proud to announce the launch of a new closed-loop recycling program for PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) plastics, in partnership with recycling specialist Pekutherm Kunststoffe GmbH.

With a firm commitment to sustainability and circularity, POLYVANTIS is taking a major step forward in reducing the environmental footprint of PLEXIGLAS® acrylic by extending recycling capabilities beyond in-house production to include fabricators and retailers across Europe. This customer-focused initiative enables industry partners to return production waste and offcuts for recycling—helping to conserve valuable resources, reduce landfill waste, and support a functioning circular economy.

“Recycling is a shared responsibility. We’re proud to offer our customers a practical and impactful way to contribute,” said Falk Majert, EVP Commercial Core for POLYVANTIS. “By working together, we can ensure valuable PMMA material stays in use—and out of the environment.”

Recycling PLEXIGLAS®: Simple, Certified, and Circular

The returns system is designed to be as efficient as possible for customers. Fabricators and retailers can continue using their standard procedures to collect PLEXIGLAS® offcuts, which will be picked up by Pekutherm for processing. The re-granulated material is then reintegrated into POLYVANTIS production, where it is used to manufacture high-quality semi-finished products, like PLEXIGLAS® proTerra, with virtually no loss in material performance.

Participating companies benefit not only from environmental stewardship but also from transparency: recycling certificates are available upon request, providing documented proof that PMMA offcut and waste has been responsibly recycled and returned to the material loop. More information can be found on the website.

A Europe-Wide Network for a Sustainable Future

POLYVANTIS and Pekutherm are part of a Europe-wide alliance for PMMA recycling. This new program is part of a broader alliance for PMMA recycling supported by POLYVANTIS and other partners across Europe. The goal is clear: build a resilient, scalable infrastructure for PMMA circularity and invite more stakeholders to participate. By combining expertise and logistics, the alliance is laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future—one product, one partnership at a time.
