Recycling PLEXIGLAS®
How to get ahead when things go in circles
Conserving resources is a crucial task we face today. We take on responsibility by returning the waste PLEXIGLAS® semi-finished products and offcuts that fabricators and retailers generate to a useful production loop. To this end, we have partnered with the experienced recycling firm Pekutherm Kunststoffe GmbH. On this page, you will find out how the process for returning waste PLEXIGLAS® acrylic works. Get in touch with us or with Pekutherm and help us to close the loop for plastics.
PLEXIGLAS® is a building block for sustainability
- PLEXIGLAS® is durable
- PLEXIGLAS® is not hazardous or special waste and is therefore easy to recycle
- The production of PLEXIGLAS® is not hazardous to human health or the environment
- The use of PLEXIGLAS® products does not entail any health risks
Recycling PLEXIGLAS® acrylic
PLEXIGLAS®, the branded acrylic, offers enormous potential for the circular economy. After all, it has a property that distinguishes it from many other plastics: Using the right recycling processes, PLEXIGLAS® semi-finished products are almost fully recyclable with hardly any loss in material quality.
The recycled raw material is then reused in new PLEXIGLAS® products, such as in our particularly resource-friendly PLEXIGLAS® proTerra variant – which consists of approx. 90 percent recycled material and impresses with its proven brand quality.
Returning PLEXIGLAS® acrylic to the circular economy
To ensure waste plastic is fed back into the circular economy and that enough recycled material is available, it is important that everyone involved in the recovery chain plays their part:
- As a plastics manufacturer, we have been returning all of our offcuts from PLEXIGLAS® semi-finished products to the production loop for many years now.
- Specialist fabricators and retailers can return leftover material generated when processing PLEXIGLAS® semi-finished products to the recycling loop to support the circular economy. For this, we have partnered with the specialist recycling company Pekutherm Kunststoffe GmbH.
- Commercial and private end users can also return PLEXIGLAS® components and products to the recycling loop after their use phase. If this is not possible, the acrylic can be disposed of as normal household waste thanks to its chemical composition.
